Bring authentic Scandinavian contrast therapy and off-grid relaxation to your backyard, lakeside dock, or vacation rental with The Canadian Timber Starlight Wood Burning Hot Tub by Dundalk Leisurecraft. Handcrafted in Ontario, Canada, the Starlight combines traditional timber woodworking with modern hydrotherapy engineering. Built with an integrated internal wood-burning snorkel heater, this tub brings 233 gallons (885 liters) of water to a soothing soak in under 3 hours—completely off-grid without requiring dedicated electrical wiring or 240V hookups.

The interior basin features a leak-proof, marine-grade 5052 aluminum liner engineered for structural durability, easy wipe-down sanitation, and efficient heat conduction. Surrounding the basin is an Eastern White Cedar exterior skirt designed to coordinate seamlessly with Dundalk Leisurecraft saunas and outdoor showers. Inside, natural Western Red Cedar bench backrests and slatted floor decking provide comfortable, ergonomic seating that stays cool to the touch. Equipped with an internal heater fence and optional roll-up cover with end-mount support arms, the Starlight offers an authentic, wood-fired soak designed to endure sub-zero winters and humid summers alike.

  • Fast Wood-Fired Heating: Internal wood-burning snorkel heater brings water to soaking temperature in less than 3 hours with standard split dry firewood.

  • 100% Leak-Proof 5052 Aluminum Liner: Solid marine-grade aluminum shell eliminates stave shrinkage leaks, cleans effortlessly, and conducts heat rapidly.

  • Dual Canadian Cedar Craftsmanship: Handcrafted with an Eastern White Cedar exterior skirt and ergonomic Western Red Cedar interior backrests and slatted floor decking.

  • True Off-Grid Hydrotherapy: Requires zero electrical service, pumps, or wiring—ideal for off-grid cabins, rural retreats, and eco-resorts.

  • Integrated Safety & Convenience: Features an internal heater partition shield and optional roll-up insulated thermal cover with tub-mounted support arms.

  • 5-Year Manufacturer Warranty: Backed by Dundalk Leisurecraft’s 5-year warranty against craftsmanship and structural defects.

Shipping & Assembly

Assembly Instructions PDF

Assembly & Site Preparation

  • Assembly Requirements: The tub body arrives pre-formed with the 5052 aluminum liner intact. Assembly involves positioning the cedar floor grates, attaching the cedar backrests, securing the protective heater safety shield, and mounting the chimney pipe. Download the complete step-by-step Assembly Instructions.pdf directly from this tab.

  • Foundation & Subfloor: Must be placed on a completely flat, level, and structural base capable of supporting approximately 2,800 lbs when filled with water and bathers (e.g., poured concrete slab, reinforced heavy timber deck, or compacted foundation pavers).

  • Chimney Clearances: Position the tub outdoors with clear overhead clearance for the 110" chimney stack. Keep the chimney pipe clear of low-hanging tree branches, roof eaves, and combustible walls.

  • Water Source & Drainage: Standard garden hose setup for filling and gravity draining.

Freight Delivery & Packaging

  • Protective Crate Packaging: Ships in a heavy-duty, weather-resistant shipping crate.

    • Crate Dimensions: 84" L x 45" W x 44" H (214 cm x 114 cm x 112 cm)

    • Packaged Crate Weight: 701 lbs (318 kg) (packaged weight can vary depending on selected options)

  • Curbside Liftgate Delivery: Because this crate measures 84" in length, it qualifies for carrier hydraulic liftgate service. The freight driver will lower the crate from the truck bed directly to your curbside or driveway access point.

  • Delivery Scheduling: The regional freight carrier will contact you in advance to schedule a designated delivery appointment window.

  • Arrival Inspection: Inspect external crating thoroughly before signing the carrier Bill of Lading (BOL). If carton damage or packaging scuffs are visible, sign as "Crate arrived damaged – Possible Hidden Damage" and take photos.

Care & Maintenance

Before Each Use

  • Check that the water is clean and clear before entering.

  • Remove leaves, insects, or other debris from the water surface.

  • Crucial: Confirm the water level is completely sufficient before lighting the wood-burning heater. Never operate the heater without the proper amount of water in the tub.

  • Check the heater, chimney, and heat shield for visible damage, soot accumulation, or obstructions.

  • Use only clean, dry firewood in the wood-burning heater.

  • Check water temperature before entering and paddle/mix the water as necessary to ensure an even temperature throughout the basin.

After Each Use & Day-to-Day Care

  • Replace the cover after the water has cooled sufficiently to keep leaves and debris out.

  • Remove any floating debris.

  • Keep the area surrounding the heater and chimney clear of combustibles.

  • Periodically wipe down the inside of the aluminum-lined tub with a soft cloth.

  • Change the water regularly based on frequency of use. Many owners enjoy several soaks before draining and refilling with fresh water rather than maintaining heavy chemical sanitization indefinitely.

Regular & Seasonal Maintenance

  • Drain and thoroughly rinse the tub whenever the water becomes cloudy, develops an odor, or has been sitting unused.

  • Clean the aluminum interior liner using warm water, mild soap, and a soft cloth or sponge. Avoid abrasive scouring pads, bleach, and harsh chemical cleaners.

  • Inspect the drain assembly and fittings for leaks or wear.

  • Inspect the chimney and heater regularly for soot or creosote buildup.

  • Remove cooled ashes from the firebox as needed.

  • Check all fasteners, bands, and hardware, tightening where required.

  • Clean the exterior cedar with mild soap and warm water.

Wood Care & Finishing

  • Leisurecraft cedar can be left unfinished to weather naturally into an organic silver-grey color without compromising its natural outdoor durability.

  • To maintain the original warm cedar color, apply a high-quality penetrating exterior wood finish suitable for cedar (Leisurecraft recommends Livos exterior wood finishes).

  • Reapply when the finish begins to fade rather than waiting for the wood to become heavily weathered.

  • Do not apply film-forming paints or varnishes unless specifically formulated for hot tub applications.

Winter Care & Freeze Prevention

  • Freezing Protection: If the hot tub will not be heated during freezing temperatures, completely drain the tub, drain assembly, and all water-containing components.

  • Do not allow standing water to freeze inside the plumbing, fittings, or heater jacket.

  • Keep heavy snow and ice from accumulating excessively on the cover.

  • Store removable accessories in a dry location when winterized.

Annual Checklist & Things to Avoid

  • Once a Year: Completely drain and deep-clean the tub, inspect the heater, chimney, heat shield, and hardware, verify plumbing/drain seals, sand any rough exterior cedar spots, and reapply exterior wood protection if desired.

  • Avoid: Operating the heater without adequate water, using harsh cleaners or bleach on cedar, pressure washing cedar staves at high pressure, allowing water to freeze inside the tub/fittings, and leaving leaves or organic debris trapped under the cover for extended periods.

Materials
  • 5052 Marine-Grade Aluminum Interior Basin: Precision-welded 5052 aluminum creates an impenetrable, crack-proof, and leak-proof interior shell. Delivers high corrosion resistance against clean soaking water and conducts stove heat directly into the water.

  • Sustainably Harvested Eastern White Cedar Skirt: Sourced from certified lumber mills in Ontario and British Columbia. Rich in natural thujaplicins and aromatic oils that naturally resist wood rot, decay, and insect damage in all outdoor climates.

  • Interior Western Red Cedar Seating & Decking: Premium Western Red Cedar backrests and slatted floor decking remain cool to the touch, comfortable against bare skin, and resistant to water softening.

  • Heavy-Gauge Submerged Snorkel Stove: Fabricated from heavy-duty, corrosion-resistant aluminum/stainless steel to transfer fire heat rapidly through the water while keeping smoke exhausted overhead.

  • Protective Cedar Heater Guard: Keeps bathers safely separated from the firebox and chimney base during soaking.

  • Authorized Factory Returns: Any return explicitly authorized for factory return is subject to:

    • A 20% restocking fee deducted from the refund.

    • The customer is responsible for 100% of return freight shipping and transit fees back to the manufacturing facility.

    • All items must arrive completely unused, unaltered, and packed securely in their original packaging and crate.

    • Leisurecraft performs a final inspection upon arrival; the refund amount is determined at Leisurecraft's sole discretion based on product condition.

  • Parts Replacement Only: Warranty coverage is strictly limited to the supply of replacement parts at no cost; installation, labor, removal, and technician fees are expressly excluded.

  • Electrician Requirement: All electrical connections (heaters, controls, chillers) must be completed by a licensed electrician; failure to provide proof of licensed installation voids electrical warranty coverage.

Leisurecraft Shipping Policy

Shipping Rates & Service Areas

  • Contiguous United States: Free standard freight shipping is available for eligible saunas (minimum order $3,500) and outdoor furniture (minimum order $2,000).

  • Small Items & Accessories: Standalone accessory orders carry a flat shipping rate of $55.

  • Alaska, Hawaii & Remote Locations: Shipping is not covered under standard free freight; custom freight quotes are required prior to dispatch. Remote regions, limited-access routes, and island deliveries may incur additional carrier surcharges.

  • Cross-Border Clearance: Shipments originating from Canadian manufacturing facilities include all standard customs clearance and border handling.

Freight Delivery & Curbside Details

  • Curbside Delivery Only: Freight shipments are delivered strictly to the curbside or the end of your driveway via standard commercial freight carriers (typically 53-foot 18-wheel tractor-trailers). Drivers do not bring crates into driveways, backyards, or homes, nor do they assist with unpackaging or assembly.

  • Site Accessibility: Customers must verify that a full-sized 18-wheel semi-truck can legally and safely access the street, reach the property, and turn around.

  • Delivery Appointments: The freight carrier contacts the consignee prior to delivery to schedule an appointment window. A timely response is mandatory to prevent carrier holding penalties.

  • Delivery Delays & Storage Fees: If delivery is delayed due to an unresponsive recipient, inability to unload, or scheduling conflicts, terminal storage charges of $35 per day will be assessed and billed to the customer.

Unloading Responsibilities & Liftgate Policy

  • Crates 84 Inches or Shorter: Liftgate service is generally available to lower the crate from the truck bed to curbside level.

  • Crates Exceeding 84 Inches: Standard liftgates cannot accommodate crates over 7 feet long. Customers are solely responsible for offloading the crate from the truck bed.

  • Required Offloading Arrangements: For oversized crates, the customer must arrange one of the following prior to delivery:

    • A forklift or mechanical loader equipped with forklift fork extensions, lifting strictly from the crate end.

    • A local tilt flatbed tow-truck service to transfer the crate from the carrier's regional freight terminal to your driveway. (Factory-assisted tilt tow-truck arrangements incur a standard $1,450 fee).

    • A capable crew on-site to de-crate or lift components individually from the truck bed within the carrier’s allotted delivery window.

Delivery Address Changes

  • Prior to Dispatch: Address adjustments submitted before an order leaves the manufacturing facility are processed at no additional cost.

  • After Dispatch / In-Transit: Rerouting or altering the destination address once the crate has left the factory incurs a mandatory $350 carrier rerouting fee.

Damage, Shortages & Freight Return Protocol

  • Crate Inspection at Curbside: All packaging must be thoroughly inspected before signing carrier paperwork.

  • Visible Damage on Arrival: If external damage, crushed corners, or open packaging is observed, you must accept the delivery and write:

"Crate arrived open/damaged – Possible Hidden Damage" clearly on the driver’s Bill of Lading (BOL).

  • Reporting Window: Detailed photos of the packaging, labels, and all damaged parts must be submitted to customer support within 30 days of receipt to qualify for no-charge component replacements under the shipping warranty.

  • Unauthorized Refusals: Deliveries refused without written authorization will be classified as a rejected delivery. Refused shipments are subject to a 15% restocking fee plus all applicable return freight, storage, and reconsignment costs.
